Please see below for more information about our classes and curriculum:
1. Early Years Section
Babies, Nursery (18 months to 4 years)
The Baby & Nursery classes are combined in one big spacious classroom and their program encourages learning through play.
For their curriculum we draw on the Montessori Method as well as the British Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum to ensure a well rounded program. They will experience a rich play based curriculum focused on their needs as a unique child. They will also enter a dynamic and challenging – yet safe and secure – environment created to foster their confidence to explore and learn. Your child learns in many different ways at this age and as we have a great staff to kids ratio, we are able to provide opportunities for the young ones to encounter experiences which enriches their understanding as they play, talk, observe, plan, question, repeat, reflect and respond to adults and each other.
Kids are actively involved and encouraged to participate in a variety of activities both indoors and outside.
The framework is used to focus on 7 key areas:
• communication and language,
• physical development,
• personal, social and emotional development,
• literacy, mathematics,
• understanding of the world,
• expressive arts and design.
Reception (4 – 5 years)
Our Reception class is in a separate class room to allow that little bit more focus, whilst still following a play based curriculum.
The Reception class follows the British National Curriculum with some elements of the Montessori Method incorporated into their program. They use a termly topic to incorporate English, Math, Science, History, Geography, Culture and Art. Their curriculum is fun & interactive whilst placing a balanced emphasis on focus and learning through play. During this very important year of preparing for Primary, we gently ease our kids into a love for learning by exciting indoor and outdoor classroom sessions, using various mediums to convey a lesson rather than just paper worksheets and fostering a curious approach to learning.
2. Primary Section
Year 1 though Year 4
Our bespoke curriculum was written especially for KJP and is based on the British National Curriculum and will cover all the required areas of study encompassing the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, together with History, Geography, Art and Design, Music, Cultural Studies, Physical Education and languages for the upper primary. We are also incorporating relevant elements of the Ugandan curriculum, notably History. We believe it is important for all students, whether permanently or temporarily living in Uganda, to gain an appreciation for, and understanding of, Uganda`s unique past, to make sense of their place in the world.
The Primary sector is split into two combined classes. Year 1 & 2 class and a Year 3 & 4 combined class.
In our primary sector our students take immense pride in their many achievements, and grow every day, both academically and socially. They enjoy learning and interacting in a tolerant, inclusive environment, where they experience a range of different cultures. There is a strong focus on making learning fun in a family type environment, and working together in a supportive and caring way.
